I always complement babies. Even the ugly ones.

Face it, most little babies look like mutant alien creatures, which can make sharing a complement a bit of a stretch. New parents often come rushing in with the most trivial of observations. And, the newer the parents, the more likely they’re seeing you because they believe their child is critically ill. Breaking the tension with a well-timed baby focused complement provides a bit of distraction for nervous parents and it will have a noticeable calming effect. Luckily, most sick kids aren’t critically ill. In fact, most kids simply have URI, OM or viral syndrome. Not that those parents aren’t going to demand an antibiotic or a second opinion based on their own WebMD research… but we’ll look at those issues in future posts.
